MY PERSONAL OPINION ABOUT WITHDRAWAL OF THE MOMBASA CEMENT PHILANTHROPIC ACTIVITIES

The recent action by the Mombasa cement managing director Mr. Hasmukh Patel of removing elephant sculptures from the Makupa round-about has come as a shock to many Mombasa county residents. This is as a result of a disagreement between him and the county governor Hon. Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir. Many people are so disappointed with the governor because they believe its him who is on the wrong because information got to the people that he ordered the Mr. Hasmukh to withdraw from his philanthropic activities.

God sends a few angels in this world in form of humans to do incredible things to fellow humans. These angels save lives, come to the rescue of the less fortunate at the time they are needed most. I have a strong feeling that one of the angels that was sent to this brutal world is Mr. Patel that the county governor is fighting. The good man spends like two million shillings in a day supporting patients at hospitals, helping with mortuary bills and goes to an extend of giving vehicles to those who are bereaved to carry their loved ones to their ancestral homes. Wow! Is this not an angel? Nobody asks him to do all these good deeds, nobody pays him for his generosity.

Mombasa being the second largest city after Nairobi, obviously has a very large population of people and unfortunately many of the occupants of this county have no specific place to call home, many have ended up staying in the streets surviving in the scorching sun and being rained on during heavy downpours. The good man felt for these people and came up with a feeding programme that he named Sahajad feeding centre which provides meals for the poor. This particular move touched many and commended him for his wonderful work. I keep on wondering why these people we vote for such as the Governor during general elections fail to look at such critical matters. The governor is now criticizing the good man’s work instead of emulating him and making this world a better place for everybody.

Apart from perfoming these works of mercy and doing numerous acts of benevolence, Mr. Patel has contributed to generating the county’s revenue by attracting tourists to the sites he has made due to his creativity. A good example is the infamous Kibarani dumpsite that he transformed into a 700 Million tourist attraction which is known as the Kibarani recreational park. Surely this a wonderful work that needs to be clapped at but apparently according to the governor, he seems not to be okay with this. By him telling the good man to take these philanthropic activities to the neighboring county means that Mombasa will definitely lose a lot in terms of generating revenue because of the tourist visitations and also the less fortunate people who have been benefitting from him will suffer a great loss. It is high time we stand as one and stop this poor governance and put off bad leaders like Abulswammad. I urge you all to elect the right leaders in the upcoming next general elections.
