INABILITY TO TACKLE CORRUPTION IN KENYA AFFECTING IT'S GROWTH

 Any nation that is a free-corrupt country accomplishes tremendous goals and the people of that state tend to feel comfortable and even appreciate the authority that is put in place hence living in harmony despite the challenges that life offers. In our country Kenya, the main problem that results from under development is corruption. In almost all fields and disciplines, the bad vice of corruption must show up its ugly horns. It has become a global problem that is significantly affecting society.

 

The governance itself has proven itself to be a hard nut to crack. It has refused to crack the whip to those who are fond of practicing these heinous acts. The economy of the country has sky-rocketed because a few inhuman individuals who only think of themselves are making ill informed decisions that are meant to brutalize the common citizen and hence enrich themselves. Nepotism and tribalism have contributed highly to the government not making steps in terms of development. Millions and millions of monies getting lost in a company and the boss can’t do anything about it because the one involved is his or her family member. A president fails to sack a corrupt governor or senator simply because the person is from his tribe. Such things make a country have a ‘stunted growth’.

Low press freedom is yet another contributor to Kenya not growing. Journalists serve as an early warning system to prevent corruption. The press gets manipulated, they are dictated on what to report and what not to report and yet they are the ones that represent millions of hopeless Kenyans. Limited less freedom contributes to the undergrowth of the country. Journalists should not be threatened nor feel intimidated. They should actually be in the forefront in battling this vice.

Poor salary and benefits are another factor that leads to committing this act. The government should motivate workers by giving them enough remuneration that can sustain them and their families so that they don’t think of using other incorrect avenues to get money.

MY PERSONAL OPINION ABOUT WITHDRAWAL OF THE MOMBASA CEMENT PHILANTHROPIC ACTIVITIES

  The recent action by the Mombasa cement managing director Mr. Hasmukh Patel of removing elephant sculptures from the Makupa round-about has come as a shock to many Mombasa county residents. This is as a result of a disagreement between him and the county governor Hon. Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir.
